Hi, I'm Alexa.

I have been teaching for fourteen years and am currently Head of English at a secondary school in Bedfordshire, with experience spanning KS3 to KS5. A particular passion of mine is working with students who have special educational needs.

​

As the founding Head of English at my current school, I had the opportunity to build the English curriculum and assessment provision from the ground up when the school first opened. Since then, I have led my team to consistently outperform national averages and have developed a strong reputation within the local community.

​

Beyond my classroom, I have developed extensive experience supporting and developing other education professionals. I love delivering CPD sessions and regularly advise department leaders on curriculum, teaching and leadership. Over the years, I have mentored trainee teachers and Early Career Teachers, helping them to develop their classroom practice and professional identity. I am also an experienced exam marker, giving me a broader perspective on assessment and the standards students are expected to meet.

Alongside my work in school, I have presented at ResearchED and recently received an award for the Most Impactful Presentation at a local education conference.

In recent years, I have undertaken freelance work with EdTech companies, contributing to the development of educational resources and assessment materials. This has included designing modules for KS3 Pod. More recently, I have worked alongside an education procurement provider as a 'critical friend', helping them to prepare for an upcoming inspection.

These experiences have given me a broader understanding of the challenges faced by schools and the importance of ensuring that resources, products and professional support are genuinely useful in practice. I strongly believe that the best support is practical, purposeful and grounded in the realities of school life. The most effective strategies aren't necessarily the most complicated ones; they're the ones that are achievable, sustainable and make a meaningful difference.
